Inspect & Repair of a Six Stage Boiler Feed Water Pump
Alongside our recognized machining and manufacturing capabilities, customers trust us at American Precision Services with advanced repair services, as outlined in the project highlighted here. A customer in the water pump industry contracted us to service a six stage boiler feed water pump which had failed inspection. After careful inspection by our experts to determine necessary repairs, we reverse engineered the required components, drafting them in 3D modeling software. The software was used to virtually assemble the total unit, confirming clearances, fits, and sizes. A range of equipment was employed for the custom manufacturing process including CNC lathes, CNC mills, grinding machines, vertical boring mills, horizontal bar mills, dynamic balancing equipment and assembly fixtures. The parts were composed of 420 stainless steel, 410 stainless steel, CA-6NM alloy, 4150 HT steel, and 932 bronze all machined to tolerances of ±0.001″.
Functionality tests, visual and dimensional inspections were carried out to verify accuracy. Overall dimensions of the finished pump were 84″ in length by 26″ in diameter, with a weight of 2,200 lbs. Features of the upgraded water pump include a capacity of 1,400 gpm, 3,600 rpm speed, 250°F liquid temperature, discharge pressure of 1,500 psig, and total head of 3,588 ft. Turnaround time for this project was 120 days, shipped to the customer in East Chicago, IN.
