Inspect & Repair of a Single Stage Vertical Lift Pump
In order to bring a failed single stage vertical lift pump to OEM tolerances, a customer in the pump industry contracted us at American Precision Services to inspect and repair the unit. After inspecting the pump to determine the actual deficiencies, our team reverse engineered the necessary components and drafted them in our 3D modeling software. This capability allowed us to virtually assemble the unit to verify form, fit, and function. Utilizing our CNC lathes, CNC mills, grinding machines, vertical boring mills, horizontal bar mills, blasting equipment, and dynamic balancing equipment, a range of materials were manipulated to create the pump’s new parts including 420 stainless steel, A36 steel, 4150HT steel, and 932 bronze. All of which were machined to tightest tolerance of ± 0.001″, with up to a 32 RMS surface finish.
The pump was assembled on site, with overall measurements of 30′ in length and 60″ in diameter and an assembled weight of 22,000 lbs. This project was completed in a turnaround time of 60 days, shipped to the customer in East Chicago, IN as agreed.
